~Supplement Details~

Below is a chart listing my current daily supplement intake.  It's basically a scoop of powder with grapefruit juice at each meal, and through judicious shopping and the use of powders instead of pills I have gotten the cost down to only $2.20 per day.  The anti-aging properties and effects are many, including:

    *Increased insulin sensitivity.
    *Protection against platelet aggregation.
    *Maintenance of microcapillary circulation.
    *Suppression of homocysteine levels.
    *Enhancement of the immune system.
*Reduction of carcinogen binding to cellular DNA.
    *Protection from alcohol breakdown byproducts.
    *Comprehensive anti-oxidation protection.

Below the chart is an explanation about many of the ingredients.

The substances in this formula are designed to provide a powerful antioxidant effect.  Many of them have been shown to have anti-cancer effects.  Others have been shown to reduce levels of homocysteine, to lessen risks of blood clotting, to help increase muscle mass, or to increase the level cognitive functioning.  Many work in a synergistic way.

Botanical Concentrates

Epidemiological studies prove conclusively that people who eat a diet high in the right fruits and vegetables have dramatically lower risks of degenerative disease.  Eating well is the true base of any nutrition protocol.  But as science continues to learn more about which substances in foods and herbs produce which health benefits, we can use this information to formulate our supplements so that we are reaching a "super" level of nutrition, as optimum as modern science and our budgets will allow.   Below are some of the phyo-nutrients (plant extracts) in the formula.

broccoli concentrate -  contains sulforaphane, which has been shown to block formation of tumors initiated by chemical carcinogens.  It also contains naturally occurring d-glucarate.  Glucorinidation is a process by which the body combines toxins with water in order to remove them from the body.  This process tends to slow down as the body ages, and d-glucarate helps reverse that decline.

raspberry extract - provides 38.5% ellagic acid, an agent shown to prevent binding of carcinogens to DNA, and to reduce the incidence of cancer in cultured human cells.  Populations that consume diets high in ellagic acid have been shown in studies to have lower rates of cancer.

labiatae contains high levels of the flavonoids apigenin and luteolin, consistently shown to slow the growth and proliferation of cancer cells.

citrus bioflavonoids - high levels are linked with reduced risks of platelet aggregation, as well as the destruction of liver toxins.

lycopene - a red carotenoid from tomatoes that help prevent prostate and pancreatic cancer.

bilberry - increases micro-capillary circulation.  This herb was actually used to help WWI pilots increase their night vision.

grape seed extract - shown to be 50 times more powerful that vitamin E in in vitro studies.

grape skin extract - contains resveratrol, a substance found in red wine which has been shown to inhibit platelet aggregation.

Cognitive Enhancers

acetyl-l-carnitine -

gingko biloba -

Alcohol Protectives

As my mother in law would say, the best way to protect yourself from alcohol is to avoid it altogether.  The ingredients below can also help.

N-acetyl-cysteine - is used by the body to make glutathione, one of the body's most important endogenous antioxidants.  Glutathione helps the body breakdown alcohol, and its by-product, acetaldehyde.

silymarin -  an extract of the milk thistle plant, has been shown to exhibit extraordinary liver-protecting properties.

Cardiovascular Nutrients

aspirin - helps inhibit chronic inflammatory conditions that are known to increase as one ages.  Also reduces blood levels of c-reactive protein, a major indicator of stroke risk.  Aspirin also makes blood platelets less likely to clump together and form clots in the arteries.
